On Monday, May 14th, the Avila Gardens’ “Cruise Ship” made a grandiose departure from the Duarte Port…yes, that’s right…Duarte! Maybe you didn’t know that Avila Gardens hosts cruises? Carmel Cruises is the most unique of all the cruise lines. Yes, it has transported Avila residents in elegant and celestial style to exotic cruise destinations all over the world to soak in the wonder of God’s beauty in the cultures throughout the world. From last year’s cruise to Ireland to this year’s exciting adventure to China, our residents have the most incredible marvels of the world brought right to their doorstep.

A few of this year’s Cruise Week adventures included a visit from Huntington Library’s expert on the Chinese Garden, Dr. Ralph Thlick, with a stunning presentation on this exquisite site, a stop at the Forbidden City where residents participated in the most challenging and unforgettable Chinese games and a breeze through one of Hong Kong’s most popular Chinese restaurants where they enjoyed mouth-watering egg rolls and a live egg roll assembly demonstration! And to top it all off, the cruise ended with a bang at the Captain’s Dinner and Senior Prom! Having danced the night away, the residents arrived back at the “Duarte Port” with smiles and hearts filled with joy and new great memories from this unforgettable week.

Where will the ship set sail to next year? Come visit Avila Gardens to find out…
