What is Independent Living?
Independent Living is a residence for Seniors who are able to perform activities of daily living, but who desire to live in a supportive and engaging environment. By living in a community, our Seniors are able to exercise their independence while enjoying the comfort, security, and confidence that accompanies the service of a professional, caring, and supportive staff available 24 hours a day.
Who is eligible to apply for Independent Living at Avila Gardens?
Avila Gardens welcomes independent men and women age 55 and over. Residents must be ambulatory without assistance, have adequate vision, and be able to reside in an independent environment. We ask that residents be able to manage and document personal financial reports, and partake in a detailed physician report.
Do you have to be Catholic to live at Avila Gardens?
No, you do not have to be Catholic to live at Avila Gardens. It is true that our mission and identity is rooted in the teachings and doctrine of the Catholic Church, but we welcome people of all faiths. We also strive to foster and develop a life of prayer and faith for each of our residents, whether it is through Bible studies, daily Mass, or positive interactions with the Carmelite Sisters.
Can I come for a tour?
We would love for you to come and visit Avila Gardens! We schedule individual tours throughout the week during a time that is most convenient for you. Please contact our Admissions Office for more information.
Do you offer a trial period?
Yes we do offer a trial period that we call, “Come and See” visits. We understand that moving into Independent Living is a decision that often requires great thought and consideration. We want you to be given the opportunity to make an informed decision, and we believe that participating in a “Come and See” visit will help you or your loved one know if Avila Gardens is the right place to be. Please contact our Admissions Office for more information or to schedule a visit.
Does insurance cover the cost of Independent Living at Avila Gardens?
Because Avila Gardens offers independent living and does not provide medical care, insurance does not cover the cost of living at Avila Gardens.
May I bring my own furniture to Avila Gardens?
Avila Gardens is able to provide furniture, but most residents prefer to bring their own furniture because it adds an element of comfort from home to their new environment.
I own a car that I would like to bring with me to use while I live at Avila Gardens. Are residents allowed to have cars?
Yes, residents in independent living are able to maintain the use of a car if they are safely able to drive and go out independently. A decision regarding this is made on a case-by-case basis.
Do you have emergency response systems? Do you have security?
The staff and personnel of Avila Gardens are trained to manage emergency situations. Avila Gardens is equipped with a 24-hour emergency call system and 24-hour fire detection system including heat and smoke detectors and automatic sprinklers. In addition to our trained staff, we also provide overnight security, which patrols internal and external premises of Avila Gardens.
